Crete is the largest of the Greek islands, and birthplace of the Olympian God Zeus. It is also where I like to go cycling on holiday. I’ll try and include information that may be of interest to fellow cyclists. The terrain is varied with mountains inland, and undulating coastal roads giving views of long beaches and secluded coves. Mount Ida or Psiloritis is the highest mountain at 2456m (8058 feet), and there is a road all the way to the summit, although the fist time I visited, the last 9 km was a dirt track. It is here that you will find the Ideon cave. Prepare for an arduous ascent, but an exhilarating descent on the way back down. |
